At this year’s Munich Postdoc Night, postdocs from across Munich came together at the
Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften to explore a topic that can make a real difference to their careers: 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
Under the theme “Amplify Your Career”,
Dr. Kai Fehse kicked off the evening with a keynote on why visibility matters in science, followed by
Dagmar Sigurdardottir with practical strategies for self-marketing and networking.
One message stood out: in a world full of people with great ideas — and increasingly, AI-generated content — being good at what you do is not enough. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.
Dagmar encouraged participants to approach networking deliberately: How do I want to introduce myself in this particular setting? What should the other person remember about me? And what do I hope to get out of the encounter?
Participants then put these ideas straight into practice during an interactive speed-networking session. And they certainly did: within minutes, the room was buzzing with conversation and new connections being made in every group.
A big thank you to our speakers, participants, and everyone from the Munich Postdoc Network who made the evening happen!
